If you think we just make activities, you’re missing the point.

I am proud of the activities we make at Timeless Presents. I am proud of every puzzle, book and object that finds its way into someone’s hands. But if you see only activity products, you are missing why we make them.

I have watched people living with late-stage dementia, and I lived through it with my father. The person beside them often has little guidance to support them, and even less time to find it. Those moments are happening in a home, a care setting or a hospital, now.

They cannot wait for the next strategy, committee meeting or properly funded pathway. A properly funded response is desperately needed. But while we wait, people are living through the consequences.

That is why we make resources families and carers can pick up and use. The guidance that comes with our products is part of the resource.

Our approach helps to slow down an interaction, offer an activity and pay attention to what might matter. An activity can offer a way to begin without putting the person on the spot. It can make room for curiosity, touch, recognition or shared attention. The guidance helps someone notice the response and adapt what they do. When something reaches a person, they have something they can try again.

Our books are part of the same work. Anyone can buy and use them. They offer practical ways to understand and navigate moments that can leave families and care workers feeling helpless. You do not have to wait for a place on a programme before you can begin to think differently about the person in front of you.

None of this means an activity will work for everyone, every time. People living with dementia are individuals, and their needs can change from one moment to the next. That is why I care so deeply about making things that invite different responses and participation rather than demand an outcome. The point is to meet the person where they are and pay attention to what happens.

We have put years of thought, work and care into making our resources accessible, adult in appearance and practical to use. Some of our products have achieved DSDC accreditation. That matters to us. But the deepest purpose of our work can't be captured by a photograph or a list of features.

I want better dementia care. I want unpaid carers to be recognised, supported and listened to. I want care workers to have the time and understanding to do the work they know matters. I want proper pathways, funding and accountability. And I am angry that people have had to wait so long for these things.

I refuse to treat the moments happening during that wait, happening now, as though they matter less.

So yes, we make activities. We write books. We curate things people can use now. We do it because people living with late-stage dementia shouldn't have to wait for something that helps.

And that is the point.
